Case Study

All Inclusive Travel

A Mobile Application
Project Introduction

My goal is to create a mobile application which encompasses the most common or sought-after travel list of things to do. Our users can access it on the go – anytime, anywhere, in real time or no time AND all in one place.

Imagine one place to “book” “reserve” or “have real time wait lines”, an All Inclusive Entertainment travel app. This app could help plan ahead or give on the fly recommendations based on real reviews. It will list the things to do “indoors” and “outdoors” and have things for families and singles a like!

SO WHAT ARE WE REALLY TRYING TO SOLVE?

To help people find activities and entertainment easily and efficiently while planning their vacation.

This mobile app will be able help to make decisions in real time and give
users a place to search and book “things to do”.

The app keeps everyone in mind so that you will find something to do for everyone!

It is user based, so even those “pop-up” events will get recorded.

HOW IS THIS APP UNIQUE?

Tracks Weather

The app is unique because it is intuitive and could track the weather to help “plan” or “re-plan” if the day’s activities go awry because of unexpected change in weather patterns.

Real Time Responses

It will coordinate with participating museums & entertainment venues to give real time responses or plan ahead when possible.

Indoor vs Outdoor

The app is unique because it will encompass many of the local areas indoor and outdoor activities.

User Feedback

Users can also input their reviews to give an authentic touch.

Ability for users
to add events

Users can also add any “pop up” events such as carnivals and markets to help spread the word of “what’s going on”.

Where have our travelers been?

Our users have been to many places around the world!

It was great to have access to interviewing such an audience to find out what could help them on their travel.

For example, our adventurer, who went to Thailand wants to see real authentic reviews, and not fluffed up information. By reading these reviews they found useful tips.  I.e…”in Thailand – “go see “chet” to take you out for trips on a boat”. This was very helpful since “Chet” doesn’t advertise, they found this person and took the trip!

By reading all the reviews, our user was able to learn from the good and bad experiences.
They also felt the feedback on Trip Advisor was unbiased.

Another example is when our adventure went to Portugal and wanted to enter a Palace. The possibility of getting in was bleak and they thought to google how to bypass the huge line. “I Bought tickets on the spot. I found a “skip the line” website for Penna Palace which gave me instant access to get in and I was able to use it right away.”

What did our users have to say?

Take a look at some of the interview highlights:

WHAT ARE THE USER PERSONAS?

ROBIN
The Family Traveler

Who she is :

● Age 25-45
● Lives in the suburbs or city
● Middle class/working class

The family traveler typically likes to know what type of events or family friendly activities there are around for the adults and the kids. She values her precious time away so making everyone comfortable and relaxed is very important to her.

She’s usually thinking:

“What’s there to do with the kids!?”

Her Goals:

It’s all about the family and kids entertainment. It’s about how everyone can feel relaxed while away together.

The weather tracker to help re-plan any events gone awry. The app shows categories of things that can be done “indoors” vs “outdoors”.

Have real time user feedback on what to expect and how authentic their experience was.

Her pain points:

Finding parks or entertainment for them and the family can sometimes be difficult. With Covid around how do you keep everyone safe? Are there ways for checking into places virtually to avoid lines?

How can the “All Inclusive Entertainment” app help solve these
problems?:

By having a bigger database of events and things to do for kids and families. To be able to see wait times, have skip the line options or reserve a spot.

ALEXIS
The Adventurer Traveler

Who he is :

● Age 21-80
● Lives in the suburbs or city
● Middle class-working class

The Adventurer typically loves to travel or wishes he could travel more often.
He loves a balance of everything. Good food, good culture and good company.

He doesn’t want to get away and be so busy that he needs another vacation when he returns.
He is looking for that perfect Zen in his travel itineraries.

His Goals:

To retreat from the everyday life, work or stress. He is looking to gain a real authentic experience and learn from the cultures around him.

He is an open minded individuals who loves seeing or immersing himself in something different than his usual routines or traditions.

His pain points :

Line ups or wait times.
Missing out on events or reservations due to mis-communications. Modes of transportation if too difficult. Change of travel plans due to inclement weather.

How can the “All Inclusive Entertainment” app help solve
these problems?

The app will tell you the weather and
then give you options of which events are “indoors” vs “outdoors”.

It’s a one stop shop for reviews or confirming events. The app will enable users too book tickets on the spot and skip the lines.

User based feedback will help with “real” and authentic reviews. It will also give you the details on what to expect from where you are going.

Users can also add any “pop up” events such as carnivals and markets to help spread the word of “what’s going on”.

Information Architecture

How the app flows:
You can refer to this chart to see how the general and overall site would flow and function.

Styleguide

This is the look, feel and brand identity of the application. Colours were selected and tested for web standards, in accordance with W3C standards.

I was taught test often, test frequently and so I tested!

Testing often provided an insight that I had overlooked. The feedback I received from users really helped me to fine tune my mobile application. With this feedback I was able to improve the functionality and ease of use within the app. I found great value in testing, not once, not twice but multiple times. Using a severity rating system I was able to determine which functions within the app needed improvement and on what priority basis. I was then able to go back to my app and address each concern one by one and in order of the highest severity rating.

Clickable Prototype

Please let me introduce you to the mobile application:
All Inclusive Entertainment.

Kindly bear in mind that this mobile application is not fully functional and will be limited to it’s functions. Please follow the highlighted areas to proceed further.

This link will take you through the Adventure’s motions to book tickets for an art gallery experience.
This link will take you through the Family Traveler’s motions to get out with the kids on a park’s adventure.

Closing thoughts

Thank you for reading through the process in which I took to get to a high fidelity prototype. Although not a full functioning mobile application – while working through this app, I found great insight and really felt I was able to connect to people since they are the center of the experience. So the journey to research for meaningful and easy to use online tools and products will continue!

Ciao for now!
